Pots, pans and fun extras the every chef would love to have. Once you have selected your knives you will need to purchase a set of pots and pans. Again it is helpful to look at the preparation methods of your five main dishes. No matter what type of pots and pans you purchase, be sure that they are of the highest quality. Some inexpensive pans have “non-stick” coating that flakes off into your food. The last thing you need to worry about is your cookware ruining your gourmet meals. The best pots and pans are constructed with non-oxidizing surfaces, using either stainless steel or heavy gauge aluminum. You get the best heat efficiency and distribution from a pan with a heavy bottom that is flat inside and out. Look at the pan handles, they should never be plastic and should always be riveted to the pan instead of welded. Your lids should fit snuggly to keep in all the moisture and flavors. One of the most important things you can do is pick up the pots and pans and make sure they are comfortable in your hands. Even the highest quality pots and pans are not right for you if they don’t feel right when you are using them.
Another excellent tool for the gourmet kitchen is a spice grinder. While you probably already have one that is used for coffee, you will need to purchase a second one dedicated just to spices. This will prevent your coffee from getting you off to the wrong start in the morning. After you have found all these basic tools you can go through your recipes and see which tools will help you prepare them. You should have no problem outfitting your kitchen from this point.
